Saturday 19th February - One for the doctor: a Hunter S. Thompson double bill

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro..."

To mark the anniversary of the good doctor's death, the People's Picturehouse is proud to present: 'One for the doctor, a Hunter S. Thompson double bill.'

8pm - Fear and Loathing in Gonzovision (1978 - 51min)

The BBC's Omnibus documentary featuring Hunter S. Thompson and Ralph Steadman.

9.30pm - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (118mins)

'We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive..." '

We're starting a little earlier this week - to squeeze all the Gonzo goodness in - and the great news is that means the bar will be open from 7pm. A special HST themed bar at that: bat country cocktails and wild turkey are the order of the day. To soak up the booze, the usual epic vegetarian tapas spread will also be served.

As ever, guests are most welcome to hang around as late as they like and, this week, raise a glass to the doctor. Let the bad craziness begin...

Saturday 12th February - 8pm: a pair of sci-fi masterpieces

The People's Picturehouse is proud to present:

8.30 - La Jetee

"They begin again. The man doesn't die, nor does he go mad. He suffers. They continue."

"If our Gods and our hopes are nothing but scientific phenomena,
then let us admit it must be said that our love is scientific as well."

By-now-classic cocktails and very good vegetarian food will be available when the bar opens at 8pm, and the first film will start at 8.30pm (prompt: no messing about, now). As ever, guests are welcome to hang around the house late into the night; we've yet to kick anyone out because we want to go to bed...
